  1. Johnson was born on July 16, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas and studied at ‘Thomas Jefferson High School’ with a strong interest in football. While attending the ‘University of Arkansas’, he played for the ‘Arkansas Razorbacks’ football team as a lineman. Many of his teammates went on to carve a niche for themselves in the professional football arena.

In high school he was a classmate of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Janis Joplin. Johnson played college football as a defensive lineman at the University of Arkansas between 1962 and 1964.
